Beach Boys 1, Castra 1

There were lots of positives to be taken from this weeks games, with the B's getting over the line by 2 runs against a strong Turners Beach line up and the A's fighting the game out to the final overs despite missing a few of our regular top order batsmen.

In the A's Turners Beach batted first and set a strong total of 225. A number of dropped catches cost the Crows dearly. Bakesy, Bretty and Wearney all took 2 wickets and Steve Denman bowled an excellent 9 over spell of tight swing bowling. Darren Briggs made a solid contribution in the field with an excellent run out and Colin Wearne provided great entertainment dropping the easiest catch in the history of cricket.
After loosing a few quick wickets in the chase, Briggsy held solid to steady the team with 19. Josh Bakes played the anchor role to make a steady 22, while the Colin Wearne of old knocked up an unbeaten 36 despite trying to run himself out early in his innings. The team finished well short on 130 but managed to bat the full 45 overs, which was good.

In the B's Castra batted first and set a solid total through consistent contributions from a number of batsmen. Lips 33, Allan 25, Ash 22, Webby 21 and Trav 26 were the top scorers. Five batsmen scoring over twenty is always going to ensure a defendable target. The boys did a fantastic job in defending the total despite the efforts of Brett Gleeson with 75. Damo was the leading wicket taker with 3 for 40 and Fluff managed 2 for 29. In the end the Beach Boys fell 2 runs short and the Crows no doubt finished the day with e few frothies.
