Great Weekend for the Crows

After a shaky start to the season the Castra A grade boys were in great need of a good performance especially with the bat. The day started well and continued in the same vain throughout. Josh Bakes bowled a fantastic opening spell moving the ball both ways and finished the day with 4 for 24. While Heath Batten made a great return going for 12 runs from 9 overs and claiming 1 wicket. Steve Denman continued his excellent form with the ball and claimed 3 scalps for 11 off his 9. Pup also claimed 2 wickets for the cost of 7 runs. Probably the most pleasing aspect of the win was the number of times the bowlers hit the stumps with 6 wickets being bowled. Fielding was also of a high standard, as was the opening partnerships of Max Rootes and Martin Gaffney who almost guided the team to a win none down. In the end Max finished on 30 and Gaff on 52 not out. A pleasing day all round. Raj was again in the action with a 3 over spell of Murali style off spin that had the batting side in all sorts of trouble.

The B's continued on their winning way with a comfortable win against Wilmot. The boys once again shared the scoring load with Fluff making 38, Mal 36, Macca 36, Webby 36 and Arns 21 to leave the team with a formidable target of 221. Wilmot were never in the games with a tight spell of bowling from Damien Maxwell finishing the day with 3 for 20. The Whiteley boys chipping in in for 2 wickets each, David and Ash for very few run and Mal conceding a generous 45 off his 6 overs. The boys form has earned them the tag of premiership favourites, which will not doubt add to the pressure this coming week.
